Anna Karenina
I am reading Anna Karenina right now.
I'll tell you how it is ....much later I'm afraid.
How it is: [a report, june 25th 2005]
Well, made it to page 100 today. It's a worthwhile book. [duh] you might think, well fur sure it;s a classic, but it doesn't necessarely mean it's for everyone. For me in particular. I dont' go out and read classics just to have something to say at parties. Well ok, I have used the fact that I am reading this book as conversation peice but anyway [blushing].
What I'm trying to say is that, it does have a contemporary side to it. The humanity in this story makes it intersting. And I realised that, often, the translation has something to do with how a book is perceived in other languages...In this case, I think I read somewhere that the translator couple has made a special effort to freshen up the thing. Thinking about the readers now. Not so got for the har'core Tolstoy students, but for me, it is perfect.
So there I am reading this thing. Enjoying it. Getting to know the main characters Anna, Vronsky, Stepan, Kitty, and Levin...One morning I am listening to CBC radio going to work. The flippin announcer lady is talking about summer readings and spilled out the flippin punch!!! Can you believe it? I couldn't She didin't even realised she did it. I was flabbergasted. I turned off the radio...ding! I wrote an email to CBC. oh well.
